Arts Enterprise Club to receive award for ourstanding service projects
April 2008
Arts Enterprise (AE), the initiative that links students at the School of Music, Theatre & Dance with peers from other arts units and the Ross School of Business, has received this year's Outstanding Campus Impact Award from the University's Rosalie Ginsberg Center. The award recognizes AE's service learning projects in Ann Arbor, Detroit, and New Orleans, as well as campus-based initiatives including the Beyond Talent Workshops and the Enharmonia audience engagement activities at our band and orchestra concerts. It's wonderful to have our students' leadership and advocacy for the arts recognized with such a prestigious award.
For more information or to offer suggestions and/or get involved with AE, email artsenterprise@umich.edu or visit the Arts Enterprise website.
Dept. of Theatre students to perform at Kennedy Center
April 2008
The Department of Theatre & Drama has been asked to conceive and create a one-hour performance of "Shakespeare's Clowns" with acting students to be presented in the Kennedy Center Family Theatre on May 9 and 10, 2008. Under the title of "Quick Comedians and Changeable Taffeta," the production will be directed by Professor Malcolm Tulip.
The Shakespeare Project utilizes three established Kennedy Center Education programs—Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), Millennium Stage, and ArtsEdge—to bring new productions of classic Shakespeare works to the stage and the web. Under the artistic direction of the Education Department's Gregg Henry, the program commissions colleges and universities to produce condensed versions of Shakespeare's plays to be performed for the stage with the goal of eventually capturing the Bard's complete canon. The productions will be filmed and a live broadcast will be on the Kennedy Center website.
