DEGREE PROGRAMS

The department of music education offers the following degree programs:

Undergraduate Degree Programs

• Bachelor of Music in Music Education - has two distinct curricula: Choral Music Education and Instrumental Music Education. This enables students to prepare for the field of teaching most compatible with their backgrounds and career goals.

School of Music, Theatre & Dance Graduate Degree Programs

• Master of Music in Music Education
• Master of Music in Music Education - Summer Program - an intense, 30-hour program was designed for the professional music educator and is offered during a five-week summer session running from July through the first week of August.
• Master of Music in Music Education with Certification -enables a student holding a bachelor of music degree in another field of music, typically performance, to earn a Master of Music with certification to teach music in the public schools.
• Specialist in Music in Music Education - applicants must have at least two years of full-time teaching experience and a master's degree in music education or a related field.

Rackham Graduate Degree Programs

• Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education - designed for the person who desires a career as a scholar and educator in music education at the college or university level, possibly in conjunction with teaching applied music or conducting a performing organization.
