BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
This workshop serves the practicing K-12 general music educator who is interested in professional development in the area of presenting world music in the classroom.The primary purpose of the workshop is to expand and deepen participants’ musical and cultural knowledge and repertoire, and to provide them with models and resources for presenting world music in the classroom. Music cultures are defined broadly and approached in a variety of performing contexts—songs, dances, instrumental music, drama, myths and folktales. Numerous models are used to approach curriculum development: region survey, functions-of-music, common elements, instruments, diaspora. A primary focus is on the use of technological media to bring world music into the classroom.
ADMISSIONS:
Workshops may be taken for graduate credit (NCFD), Continuing Education Units (CEU), or for personal enrichment without college credit.
GRADUATE CREDIT:
