SUMMER WORKSHOPS  

AFRICAN DRUMMING & DANCE

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

Study traditional Ghanaian music through performance modes of drumming, singing, and dancing.  Instrument and vocal pieces will be selected from a variety of musical styles such as unaccompanied vocal chants, songs, music from life cycle events, and music for social and other festive occasions.  No prior drumming experience is required.

Great skills to use in classrooms and community groups.

TIME:

              Monday - Thursday: 2:00 - 7:30 pm

              Friday: 10:30 - 4:00pm

GRADUATE CREDIT:

Graduate credit is available.  The African Drumming & Dance Workshop may be taken for one or two credits, which can be transferred to another institution's graduate program. Prospective students must apply to the School as "Not Candidate for  Degree" (NCFD) students, and, if accepted, pay for the credit(s) at the appropriate tuition rate (in-state or out-of-state).               This workshop has been approved by the State of Michigan to offer SB-CEU’s.

              Total Number of CEU: 2.1
